What device + iOS version are you on? iPhone X (A1901) on iOS 13.2.2 (17B102)

What checkra1n version are you using? 0.9.3 (also tried safe mode)

What are the steps to reproduce the issue?

  1. just jailbreak.
  2. ...

What do you expect, and what is happening instead? a working Face ID

Any other info, error logs, screenshots, ...?

EDIT: tried restoring using iTunes, but the result is the same.

alisabah025 commented 4 years ago

Same.

kpwn commented 4 years ago

ugh :( i really hoped we had fixed this. i guess root-cause is different. are you able to use faceID when booting to stock?

scuty2000 commented 4 years ago

yes, on stock Face ID is working properly

kpwn commented 4 years ago

i am pretty sure i know what the issue is then, aiming to push a fix in next release

scuty2000 commented 4 years ago

Thanks! Should I close the issue or leave it open for now?

kpwn commented 4 years ago

You can leave it open so we can track the issue.

scuty2000 commented 4 years ago

Ok, if you need any further information just ask.

having the same issue. iPhone X 13.2.2

Mexmaster00 commented 4 years ago

iPhone X (10,6) iOS 13.1.2 (17A861)

Same issue on 0.9.2 and 0.9.3 but with no touch and no Face ID, 0.9.1 works perfectly with no errors for me

kpwn commented 4 years ago

We pushed 0.9.3.2, should fix this.

scuty2000 commented 4 years ago

We pushed 0.9.3.2, should fix this.

Actually... nope. This acts as before, same strategy (also tried restoring with iTunes again).

EDIT: Used both manual and checkra1n method to enter DFU, same result.

scuty2000 commented 4 years ago

Had some testing on 0.9.3.1

Here's my report:

Tested this behavior multiple times.

@kpwn

kpwn commented 4 years ago

hey, can you try with this build and see if it changes anything?

Ok, new report for 0.9.3.4:

Behavior tested 5 times.

kpwn commented 4 years ago

and going back to 0.9.3.2 makes the old behavior reappear, correct?

scuty2000 commented 4 years ago

and going back to 0.9.3.2 makes the old behavior reappear, correct?

exactly

scuty2000 commented 4 years ago

Note: 0.9.3.1 is by now the build where I get more often in a "Fully operative" mode. 0.9.3.4 never got me there.

cat24max commented 4 years ago

Sadly even with 0.9.3.4 iPhone X is still not jailbreakable :( -20 The only version I got to Face ID not working was 0.9.2

yur1xpp commented 4 years ago

@scuty2000 @cat24max how do you enter DFU mode? After entering recovery? @kpwn Some users reported that entering DFU via recovery mode solved this issue. https://www.reddit.com/r/jailbreak/comments/dw97r6/tip_those_having_unresponsive_screen_and_face_id/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web2x

Using both ways gets to same result

kpwn commented 4 years ago

i have a suspicion that this is indeed caused by unclean DFU entry. it would explain a lot of things.

Clean fast DFU technique (Requires irecovery):

  1. Enter recovery mode
  2. In a Terminal window, type irecovery -n, but don't press Enter right away
  3. Press volume down and power on your device
  4. Press enter in Terminal
  5. Two seconds after the screen goes black release power and keep holding volume down
  6. You should be in DFU within 10 seconds.

Please try this.

cat24max commented 4 years ago

@kpwn Any way to download binaries for irecovery? Have tried several repos now, all makefiles seem to be broken. Getting into DFU from recovery the "official" way is impossible on my iP X.

Xador123 commented 4 years ago

V 0.9.3.4 does not work with IPad 6 Gen. 2018. Booted not and then Error 20. Only 0.9.2 works well.

kpwn commented 4 years ago

Please give this a shot, it removes some hacks we added to try and debug this issue (and of course, use clean DFU): https://assets.checkra.in/test/checkra1n%20beta%200.9.3.7.dmg

cat24max commented 4 years ago

0.9.3.7 works without -20 timeout now. First boot touchscreen isn't working. Then jailbreak again, touchscreen is now working but without Face ID.

Not from clean DFU though, as it's impossible for me to get into DFU from recovery.

EDIT: this will take some time, my homebrew is broken

V 0.9.3.7 worked with iPad Pro 2018 10.5 inch (t8011 13.2.2), where all versions since 0.9 didn't.

kpwn commented 4 years ago

while this is not a public release, it's based on code we're considering to be release-grade and that we will ship w/ 0.9.4 later (we're trying to get the fastDFU thing implemented in the UI for that also) that did get improvements from earlier versions, so maybe give it a shot.

@kpwn (Device: iPhone X 13.2.2, CheckRa1n: 0.9.3.2, using USB-A cable, USB-C did not work for me) Hey, I'm not the most well-versed in exactly how this issue reporting works. I was having this issue for a long time but I've finally got it fixed consistently. As mentioned above, the issue is with entering DFU mode outside of recovery. When I followed the tutorial presented in the checkrain app from recovery (you have to transition very quickly into holding power + volume down, and release power while continuing to hold volume down a little bit earlier than suggested), I've been jailbreaking consistently without error ~20, face id working! Hope this helps!

-edit: clarified when to release power button

kpwn commented 4 years ago

USB-C cable not working is something i'd like to understand eventually; I have the same issue and I suspect the cable is just unable to have devices enter DFU mode because DFU fails to identify it as plugged in. Thank you for the feedback! It seems like this is indeed the issue, although for everyone reading this: more feedback, especially if successful, is appreciated.

But i also tried using a normal cable (adapting it with an apple adapter) without any result!

i want to help test your instructions you posted here (https://github.com/checkra1n/BugTracker/issues/291#issuecomment-554001715) but i am having trouble finding where exactly to install irecovery. could you point me in the right direction?

Edit: I have an iPhone X and have been experiencing the non responsive screen issue on 0.9.2 through to 0.9.3.2

kpwn commented 4 years ago

@scuty2000 the issue not being USB-C cable but being unclean DFU. you need irecovery for my way, or you can try entering DFU from recovery. I think the instructions in the app just miss an initial step or something like that. you can ignore the instructions and just enter DFU any way as long as you do it from that view.

cat24max commented 4 years ago

I dunno, I have just tried 20x more times to get into DFU from recovery. Just impossible, ALWAYS booting normally. Even with a USB A cable.

kpwn commented 4 years ago

Are you following the instructions on checkra1n? they're known to be broken I think. Follow some other instructions while in the checkra1n dfu instructions. We will update the UI in the next version as to include the irecovery trick I detailed above without needing irecovery.

cat24max commented 4 years ago

I have tried several. In the last couple days I probably tried every possible combination of button presses. By now I have a 90% success rate of getting into DFU from normal mode. But my success rate for getting into DFU from recovery is 0%.

scuty2000 commented 4 years ago

@kpwn Great news! I managed to get in the clean dfu mode using your method and irecovery, everything works fine at first attempt! Except for the loader app not showing app (see edit).

Used a old build of iRecovery (Version: 2.0.5) and used irecovery -a

Schermata 2019-11-15 alle 00 20 41

EDIT: App shown up after a uicache

kpwn commented 4 years ago

Here's a test build that should include the new DFU procedure: https://assets.checkra.in/test/checkra1n%20beta%200.9.4.dmg

Please give this a shot!

cat24max commented 4 years ago

Sorry to give you bad news, same result. Tried a couple times, played with the timings. Still normal boot.

kpwn commented 4 years ago

@cat24max this is with iPhone X on what version again?
