Every time we run test, we download the repository and branch under test to a new directory. This would not be needed, and would be faster if we can determine that nothing has changed that required re-downloading.

An automatic solution that does not require the user to continuously download repositories when not strictly required.
Describe alternatives you've considered
Having a known download directory for repositories (used if configured else use /tmp and download as now)
Persisting a test-log to determine what we've already downloaded.
