Response from Carl Seifert at TXDOT:
Previously TxDOT purchased Strava data for the whole state with local governments provided access as sub-licensees. Luckily this relationship has changed, so TxDOT staff no longer act as middle men. Strava now allows access to their data for public entities and their contractors through a web-based interface (Strava Metroview). Interested parties can request access directly through Strava via the webform below. In your access request, you are encouraged to detail specific projects for which you’d like to use Strava data. Strava staff do reject some access requests (it’s not a rubber stamp). Also note, organizations are allowed multiple access requests because the login is now tied to a person (email) instead of the entire entity. Demo: metro.strava.com/demo Request access: https://metroview.strava.com/application Getting started guide: https://metro.strava.com/get-started#data Please reach out directly to me with questions about how to use this data.
@alan-deanda do we still download this data and store it somewhere?
@johnclary no, each user is able to do it from the metroviewer themselves as needed. The metroviewer has links to documentation as well.
thanks, Alan. that rings a bell. i believe we may have some lingering documentation in gitbook—would you remove that?
Emailing TXDOT to have Andrew be the new point of contact for COA's Strava sublicense.
