Start discussion of how to get possible test tablets. Also, we’d like to get a few options to do comparisons

Possible options:

Testing:

After the meeting I had some action items:

Messaged Danny C.

Remember we discussed about how a stakeholder can test out tablet/mobile devices with CTM? I imagine they need to reach out or put in a CTM ticket. Do you have a contact person that they'd do that with? Scott said he doesn't know anyone at CTM anymore that would be the contact. They interested in testing out some Ipad minis and android tablets. Any help is appreciated.

Danny provided me with contacts to the Wireless team. Will reach out to Scott and stakeholders.

Contact John S. - AW

Using AirWatch to deploy apps Set up a folder on the ipad, list of applications and click to install applications - to download Can't always to have the GIS applications NetMotion on the tablets

Not for checking email, just data collection One device per person to save cost, but couldn't do data collection with the dell tablets

1 tablet per external GPS (sub-meter devices) Using Collector, iOS version of Collector, no more Field Maps - ipad Mini

Navigational purposes - doesn't need high accuracy iPads are compatible, new versions of the software 3 year lifecycle - every 3 years to replace them Keeps stuff up to date

Latest version of ESRI Field Maps lowest ipad is ipad 4 generation Have gen 3 and gen 5

Retire ipads - not sure what happens? Go to surplus or destroyed?

Retiring GPS units, 5 year life cycle

Erro AERO/Gold?

Android Issues

Memory/Storage capacity? Small side, didn't want people downloading on the web 64 GB - sufficient enough Default size these days

Battery Life? Issues with battery being depleted Connecting to that device half a day bc of that

Field Workflow

Go to area GPS valves Drive to next location Supposed to be doing, back in truck Plug tablet back into charger Assigned valves could be 30-40 minutes away Set up by grids using grid system, finishing up a section Plenty of time to plug it in to charge People not charging the devices

Pilot project

Contractor GPS all of assets in pilot area Issues with battery running down, using it non-stop - all day 2 iPads, when battery gets low, switch device

Use an iPhone rather than iPad Large Screen, can still do External battery cases Cost involved Gonna cost a lot Voice/Data plan

iPad Mini $600-700 Otterboxes $70/case $750 per tablet

Emailed the CTM contacts provided by Danny - 12/6

I got your information from Danny C. He’s my contact I work with for AirWatch and I had asked him who would I could contact about testing hardware. I have some stakeholder looking to upgrade their tablet devices, we currently have Samsung Tab A. They were wanting to test other hardware devices out and I was told there might be a way to test some devices prior to us deciding on one and ordering.

The ATD IT hardware contact is Scott, who is cc’d. He regularly works with your team to get IT purchases from the Wireless shop. Let me know how we should go about this. Should I have the stakeholders submit a ServiceNow ticket, have Scott put in a request or get on a quick phone call with the my stakeholder point of contact for the devices?

dianamartin commented 2 years ago

Scott replied to me 12/7

Vendors typically don’t send over hardware any more for testing. Don’t know if that is a city policy or vendor policy.

  • They did provide testing equipment before about 7 years ago

I replied

Well I’m going based off what Danny said, so maybe he’s not in the loop on that anymore. We’ll see that Wireless says?

@dianamartin - please follow up with CTM (again)...

dianamartin commented 2 years ago

Followed up from by 12/6 email

Emailed Shannon/Kimberly - 12/15 Cc'd Anthony M, Danny C.

I’m following up on this email because I’d like to get to the stakeholders to let them know whether CTM still allows stakeholders to borrow devices. If not, then we’ll have to figure something else out.

  • Any response is greatly appreciated.

Anthony replied - 12/15

No, we typically do not have devices for loan. Do you have a specific device you're looking to test? Maybe we can still help.

dianamartin commented 2 years ago

I said on 12/15

I’ve cc’d our stakeholder division contact that can expand on the brand/models they’re looking into testing.

I followed up on 12/17

I found the list of hardware devices the Signs and Markings Division were interested in testing out.

  • iPad (apple)
  • Samsung tablet (android) upgraded version
  • Surface Pro (Windows)
  • Lenovo Chromebook
  • Any CTM recommended tablet
dianamartin commented 2 years ago

Anthony replied 12/17

Unfortunately we do not keep devices like this stocked.

  • I recommend submitting a Request for Quote for an IT Purchase or a Request for an IT Purchase with Quote.

I replied 12/17

We’ll figure out a way to test what we need and submit an IT Purchase Request when we’re ready to purchase new devices.

SMB needs to have internal discussions on how they would like to move forward.

Moving forward, @dianamartin can work with Danny/CTM is to try updating the Airwatch profiles.
