i got everything assembled on my Myford ML7 and followed another youtuber for the mechanical connection from motor to leadscrew using 2 helical gears 1:1 which worked for him, but it seems with a different motor so while it spins under no load, when i engage the carriage my motor stalls. re-reviewing Mr. Cloughs video I see he's running 6:1. so as i don't have a gearbox on my lathe and the layout of my lathe would i need a massive pulley 15 to 90 or 20 to 120 teeth and redo my motor layout. OR i thought about adding a 6:1 planetary gearbox on my stepper and continuing with the helical 1:1 pair to link to the leadscrew. Opinions or thoughts?

I use this for 6:1 but a gearbox will do the same too. I use a Stepperonline 180 w servo https://a.aliexpress.com/_mrS50k6

only thing is the moror you got going to provide the Torque and speed you need using 6:1 gearing? good torque at 3000 rpm motor speed..
