Never ending reboot loop #15

Hello again, I am using the firmware in the bin folder So I got it up and running and it was working fine. Then I went to settings, entered my wifi credentials and freesound token. Then I went to slot, and tried to enter a freesound id. That's when the reboot cycle started.

In the reboot, it displays the splash screen if the SD card is inserted, and is responsive for about a second. I can see the clock top right gets to about 10:00:05 (my timezone is +10), the screen then freezes, there is a flicker and it restarts

So I removed, the SD and checked the details in it. there are correct. I tried repowering it with and without SD, it keeps rebooting. So I finally tried to reflash it, powered it up without SD, and it keeps rebooting. Then I tried a full flash erase, reflashed, same issue I then tried the older firmware same behaviour. I then tried the TBD firmware and that didn't appear to work. And then I tried to reapply the latest normal firmware, it's back to rebooting

Not sure quite what to do now. Any help is appreciated.

Flash voltage (VDD_SDIO) determined by GPIO12 on reset (High for 1.8V, Low/NC for 3.3V).

I'd guess it is an SD card issue. Try another card, check the soldering points and contact points of the sd card connector. Reformat the SD card. Boot with empty SD card, then edit the files again on the PC, then reboot on Strämpler. You can also debug what is happening by having the serial cable connected and use a monitor. The esp outputs debug info (make monitor or idf.py monitor).

Hi, I've checked and reflowed the SD card holder. No luck with multiple different SD cards (I tried about 5 of different sizes - reformatted to FAT32). When I put in a new card, it initialised it, and I can see all the files, on the SD card, but then it went into the endless loop Setting the network details made no difference, back to loop

Would you expect it to reboot in a loop, even with no SD card in the unit? This is making me think it's not the SD?

I am not having much luck getting idf.py monitor working... I initially assumed it was just an exe I could run, but is it correct that it is an alternative build that has the monitoring built-in? Do I need to build the full source to get that up and running? thanks again

a simple monitor like putty should work, just select the correct baud rate (should be 115200).

I have setup DHCP on my router for the MAC address that was in the build. But I never see any attempt to connect in my router logs. The device is near my wifi router. Does it support DHCP? Security is: WPA + WPA2 / PSK WPA Algorithm = TKIP/AES

It would appear that on attempting to set the WIFI details, it reboots without any indication of why in the logs. Any idea what I could try next?

I have setup DHCP on my router for the MAC address that was in the build. But I never see any attempt to connect in my router logs. The device is near my wifi router. Does it support DHCP?

It would appear that on attempting to set the WIFI details, it reboots without any indication of why in the logs. Any idea what I could try next?

It seems to reboot as it's attempting to establish WIFI connection my wifi router uses the following security: Security is: WPA + WPA2 / PSK WPA Algorithm = TKIP/AES

This is strange, your system seems to reboot once WIFI ist enabled. It doesn't seem to be an issue with the SD card. How powerful is your power supply? I suspect a voltage drop which causes the EN line to be deasserted by the MIC803 power supervisory chip. If you have an oscilloscope you can check the EN if it remains stable (high). A hardware reset is issued if EN is pulled low. Once WIFI kicks in, the power demand increases dramatically.

I removed the MIC803 and it is now (sometimes) working. You were correct that a reset (EN low) was occurring. Removing the MIC803 means EN is now constantly high. It only loads sometimes though. with it sitting on a white screen, sending this through the serial:

It's standard current consumption is around 80ma on the +12V line. prior to connecting, when it was trying to connect to WIFI this would peak around 120ma and that's when it would reset. I am testing uploading a file and current consumption is approx 150ma.

Does the current level seem to high? or does that seem normal? If it is normal, I am trying to figure why the MIC083 would be resetting? Could it be faulty? perhaps different caps values could stop it tripping?

I've now tested most things and they appear to work. Apart from if I enter a Freesound ID. it always just reboots. Is this a know bug? (I assume the ID is the number in the URL? eg. https://freesound.org/people/inchadney/sounds/585574/ -> ID = 585574) Also wifi upload via http://ctag-modular/ is very very slow
