X "The master has failed more times than the beginner has even tried." Stephen McCranie

"A smooth lecture...may be pleasant; a good teacher challenges, asks, irritates and maintains high standards – all that is generally not pleasant." Paul Halmos

X "Time spent thinking about a problem is always time well spent. Even if you seem to make no progress at all." Paul Zeitz

X "In the broad light of day mathematicians check their equations and their proofs, leaving no stone unturned in their search for rigour. But, at night, under the full moon, they dream, they float among the stars and wonder at the miracle of the heavens. They are inspired. Without dreams there is no art, no mathematics, no life." Michael Atiyah

X "The best teachers are those who show you where to look, but don't tell you what to see." Alexandra K. Trenfor

X "We cannot teach people anything; we can only help them discover it within themselves." Galileo Galilei

X "The obstacle is the path." Zen saying, author unknown

X "Mathematics, rightly viewed, possesses not only truth, but supreme beauty — a beauty cold and austere, like that of sculpture, without appeal to any part of our weaker nature, without the gorgeous trappings of painting or music, yet sublimely pure, and capable of a stern perfection such as only the greatest art can show. The true spirit of delight, the exaltation, the sense of being more than Man, which is the touchstone of the highest excellence, is to be found in mathematics as surely as poetry." Bertrand Russell in Mysticism and Logic

X "A mathematician, like a painter or a poet, is a maker of patterns. If his patterns are more permanent than theirs, it is because they are made with ideas” (Hardy, 1992 , p. 84)

X "Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn’t do than by the ones you did do” – Mark Twain

X "Any creative endeavor is built on the ash heap of failure." Michael Starbird

X "An ounce of practice is worth more than tons of preaching." Mahatma Gandhi

X "The impediment to action advances action. What stands in the way becomes the way." Marcus Aurelius

X "Don’t just read it; fight it! Ask your own questions, look for your own examples, discover your own proofs. Is the hypothesis necessary? Is the converse true? What happens in the classical special case? What about the degenerate cases? Where does the proof use the hypothesis?" Paul Halmos

X "Alone we can do so little; together we can do so much." Helen Keller

X "I alone cannot change the world, but I can cast a stone across the waters to create many ripples." Mother Teresa

X I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer. Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration. I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over me and through me. And when it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path. Where the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.

These are all things that can be learned. So if you can learn that is a trump card, it's an ace, it's a joker, it's a wild card. You can trade it for any other skill." Naval Ravikant

X "The miracle of the appropriateness of the language of mathematics for the formulation of the laws of physics is a wonderful gift which we neither understand nor deserve. We should be grateful for it and hope that it will remain valid in future research and that it will extend, for better or for worse, to our pleasure, even though perhaps also to our bafflement, to wide branches of learning." Eugene Paul Wigner
