gene link from publication page #28

When gene names are specific and correct but odd format, e.g 5.8S_rRNA-1, the gene page throws an error with the gene name in the link (the period in the name is the problem, all others, with just an underscore, work). However, from the annotated publication, genes link through the GENE NAME. Thus, it throws an error if people click. Click on the 5.8S... gene name on this page: http://dictybase.org/publication/11256

Maybe this is because the paper curation tool (Yulia's) links papers to gene names (not to IDs?). So there are 2 possibilities: 1) Change with the overhaul how papers link to genes, it should be in the curation tool by gene name, but in the background via ID, and thus link genes via ID. 2) Include 'odd' characters such as periods in gene names so they work in the link (maybe that's impossible with a period as it's reserved for domain names?).
