Mind Scan workflow #1066

Per Juxtapozblis:

And lastly, just wondering about Mind Scan. Mind Scan only has a to-hit, not an AOE effect. But my player was using it to scan the funeral guests to try to identify the character they wanted to find. I'm suspecting there is no way to automate this...but the trick is, as GM, I don't want the player to know who in the party is the person they are seeking. And conversely, if he was scanning for VIPER agents, I don't want to give away who they are either unless his roll is a success. But there's no way to target a crowd and there's also no way to target an individual without giving away which individually they should be targeting. Does that make sense? So i just had him roll 3d6 manually, subtracted that from 11 + his OMCV - the size of the crowd and compared the results of the target's EGO. This couldn't be automated and also have a hidden target could it?

Then for results, it might be nice if just for Mind Scan it didn't show Body & Stun because that's not what the roll does. But that's a very minor language point, i just used the Stun for the result. I think i did that right. That's everything I was able to catch. The module made everything a lot more accessible to my players who have only learned the system so far from my explanations.

We are aware mind scan is poorly supported. Let me take a look and see if I can make a few improvements.

OK, I have a working prototype. Still needs some work. You can Mind Scan a selection of tokens. The whole scene, or the entire world. From there the GM is given a list of possible tokens to reveal to the player. I think the GM should select just 1, but right now they can select several.

Once the target has been found the Mind Scan roll needs to happen. I'm still working on that part.

Proposed workflow:

  1. Player rolls to-hit. Add text box for description of area they are scanning (theatre, continent, etc). Includes MSL.
  2. GM estimates number of people & familiarity. GM selects an appropriate target (if any). Finalizes the to-hit OMCV attack roll. The success/fail roll should be secret.
  3. Player is shown that target exists in scanning area when successful. That target ID is stored in chat card. Name of target is likely hidden at this point, but GM may reveal if appropriate.
  4. Player sets MIND SCAN EFFECTS level +10, +20 undetectable, etc. Rolls effect dice. Is show a simple success or fail, as to not reveal the target's DMCV or other defenses. GM should see mental defense tags & details.

Future: allow players to select targets with the lock-on.

Does damage negation work vs Mind Scan? NO

Mental Defense should work.

Initial support for Mind Scan. Mind Scan proof of concept video. Were missing mental defenses, something @phBalance was working on. Will touch base with him this weekend to see how far he got. I'd like to incorporate those defenses into Mind Scan (if appropriate).
