Focus Hub FY17/18 accounts #140

Closed iteles closed 5 years ago

We'll need to submit accounts for the 2017/2018 financial year, following on from #133 and as a part of #135.

Tasks

rub1e commented 6 years ago

And we've just received the request for CT return from HMRC, for the period 1/6/2017 >> 31/5/2018 (but no deadline as of yet)

iteles commented 6 years ago

@rub1e Yes, they send them out super early! Deadline isn't til 2019 but no sense in delaying it. Once we file the accounts we can get this in straight away.

rub1e commented 5 years ago

I don't know why this didn't occur to me earlier, but our FH year runs till May, and all transactions are reconciled for that period, so I can just submit the accounts for 17/18 now

HOWEVER

I found this when I logged in and that shouldn't be the case, so I'm going to call HMRC before proceeding to 17/18

UPDATE: I'm told by HMRC that we're 100% up to date with our filings, and they have no idea why the above is being displayed. Which is positive, but only to an extent 😀

iteles commented 5 years ago

@rub1e Thanks for checking with them and for getting on with the filing 🎉 Makes me happy we'll have a timestamped record of us finding out (with a screenshot) and the version-controlled, timestamped update of your conversation where they said it was fine! Gotta love the process 😉

Ha - just as long as I don't have to make the call and ask "Do you accept github at all?" 😁

Although I should say - I did refer to github for dates at least twice while on the phone to them - so the system does indeed work!

This is a bit of a nightmare 🙀

So... that's fun and games for a Tuesday afternoon. Will update when I've figured out what to do!

Everything's ok - turns out the FreeAgent report actually contains those missing 9 days, but the only place they included that information was... in the URL string! I only noticed this by chance - but crisis averted!

I've added all the figures to the tax return now. I've saved it and will check it over fully before submitting

One annoying niggle was the way FreeAgent displays the balance sheet and debtors, which required me to go through a printout manually (can't export to CSV, only PDF) and tick off payments against invoices to find a discrepancy. It was among the more boring 20 mins of my life. Thank god we won't be using FreeAgent any more - all hail Xero

I've added all the figures to the tax return now.

LIES! Turns out I'd only done the topline figures - there's another very granular section which requires a breakdown of how much we've spent on e.g. Heat & Light, or Accounting software etc.

As per https://github.com/dwyl/hq/issues/339, this isn't something that is an issue in Xero as we already use the right categorisations, but in FreeAgent it requires manually adding up spend in each category, as by default everything is dumped in Office/Admin costs

rub1e commented 5 years ago

The return has now been filed with HMRC and Companies House, and the whole process is documented in https://github.com/dwyl/process-handbook/pull/125.

I'll update and close this issue once the accounts have been accepted in the next 48hrs hopefully.

rub1e commented 5 years ago

OK so CH had accepted it but HMRC hadn't because I'd entered the wrong password (which fans of this process might remember is the usual HMRC password minus the final two characters)

We've had receipt of the submission so will close when this is accepted in the next 2-30 days

I'm not 100% convinced that "submission complete" === "accounts accepted" so I'll leave this open until we've had formal confirmation

rub1e commented 5 years ago

We're past the 30 day period where HMRC can come back to you about your submission, so closing this issue as it's complete
