Door Closer Mechanism #39

Closed nelsonic closed 7 years ago

nelsonic commented 7 years ago

@sofer the door closer mechanism installed @FoundersandCoders appears to work _really well! 👍

@finnhodgkin looks like you were the leader on this improvement. (well done!) 🎉

Could you give us some detail as to where you bought it from? How much was it? 💰 ❓ or, if you're feeling especially kind, could you order one for us and help us install it at QuietSpace? (please/thanks)

this one? https://www.amazon.co.uk/d/Door-Hardware-Locks/Briton-121CE-SES-Closer-Fixed-Doors/B0036QYOAM/ image

@markwilliamfirth / @iteles this is a security thing for QS. having the door "ajar" is inviting chancers to walk in and take the "nice things" ... also if the door is open we're losing heat 💸

finnhodgkin commented 7 years ago

@nelsonic Really Antonio deserves more credit than me :hammer:

Yup that's the one! The only downside is that it may not hold up for as long as it should, especially on the F&C door with its cracked hinges. The trouble is those large doors have big bits of chunks of metal at certain points in the frame so we had to attach the arm at a little bit of an angle.

We'd probably do a better job second time round. Happy to order one to install next Monday if you like?

@nelsonic Do we want to figure out whether we're going to have to replace the door first? #27

nelsonic commented 7 years ago

@finnhodgkin thanks for replying and for sharing credit with @antoniotrkdz 👍

@iteles we need to determine if we need to upgrade the QS door. But in the meantime we could invest in a door closer simply to ensure that the door is closed. lots of people leave the door open which is both a security risk and an environment issue (heat loss and noise)

I have to say this has been the most impressive thing to have happened in no. 14 for a while! I think we should definitely get the above. it does a superb job at keep the door closed and the heat in.

iteles commented 7 years ago

@markwilliamfirth Are you able to order this from the dwyl account? If not, please assign back to me and I'll get it sorted

ghost commented 7 years ago

Considering the door might be replaced I think we should wait until that decision is made before going ahead

iteles commented 7 years ago

@markwilliamfirth I was in the office today and it gets pretty cold in there whenever someone leaves the door open, but next door (where the door is now always closed) is actually nice a not-winter-breezy! I asked that question above too and changed my mind after being in the office today. I think #27 is at least a month off if not two so we'll have the current door for that long. I made the call to get this given it's only £20 and will likely save us more than that in heating alone in 2 months 😊

nelsonic commented 7 years ago

Sorry to create a disagreement here. I see both points of view. I think we can always re-purpose the door closer even if we end up getting a new door for #27 👍

nelsonic commented 7 years ago

@iteles did you order the door closer from amazon? (has it arrived?)

iteles commented 7 years ago

We never did do this and going into summer, I don't think we want to. Founders & Coders and propping up their door with boxes because the door closer is so tight a normal wedge won't hold it.

Let's revisit this at the end of the summer, depending on where we are with #27

nelsonic commented 7 years ago

F&C could simply disconnect the door stopper for the 3 weeks of summer. (nobody has tried to think of the simplest solution to the problem) Anyway.
