Briefly comment on the issue why you would be interested in this project.

Fredrick-Kakembo commented 4 years ago

This being my Second Choice. I very well understand ONT data is currently an emerging version trying to overcome the challenges associated with short reads of NGS technologies, however it also comes along with a bunch of new challenges. Having not worked on any Long Read analysis before, this will be an opportunity to explore the nature of such data, tools available to help in the analysis as well challenges and good side of analyzing such data.

I select this as my second choice for a mini project. My MSc project of interest involves Portable sequencing and long read analysis and i believe this mini project addresses these two factors. It would therefore equip me and get me better prepared to undertake the MSc project.

baker371 commented 4 years ago

I choose this as my First Choice, I like reverse engineering things and with the reproducible research methods we have been introduced to, this would be a great way to test out my understanding and implementation of these concepts.

namagandamaria commented 4 years ago

Hey! I choose this as my first choice as it will be relevant during my MSc project, I intend to use the MinION sequencer in testing its accuracy and applicability in diagnostics.

JupiterMarina commented 4 years ago

I choose this as my second choice...I would like to get more skill in dealing with Long read sequencing data and how we can utilise both short read and long reads in analysis for better predictions and accuracy

TumuhimbisePeninah commented 4 years ago

This comes as second; i am more fascinated with the real time portable devices that can get done a huge workload. Bacterial genome reconstruction sounds interesting and the fact that i get to reproduce this pipeline is a big opportunity to gain a new skill.

Katunge commented 4 years ago

This is my first project choice and comes in the nick of time - just as I start sequencing bacterial genomes using the minIon in the coming week. This project will be a good way for me to get my feet wet with ONT data manipulation, how to carry out reproducible research and make these available to the community for QC and generation of publication quality images. This mini-project will give me a chance to gain skills on pipeline adaptation and understanding of what goes into producing a pipeline.

PMuchina commented 4 years ago

I choose this project as it creates a platform for building an automated pipeline for one-stop analysis for circular bacterial genome reconstruction. The gained experience will help me in creating my own pipeline in python as well as polish and hone my programming skills. It will also give me more hands on experience on reproducibility more so in using snakemake.

agasiherbert commented 4 years ago

I choose this project. It will be interesting to work with long reads. Importantly work as a checkpoint for my grasp and applicability of python in sequence analysis while reproducing the ONT pipeline.

mudiboevans commented 4 years ago

Reproducibility and automation of analysis is a key aspect of any research work. Having been introduced to workflows, it will be interesting to interrogate a published pipeline in trying to see if I can arrive at the same results. I therefore select this project so that I may be able to apply the skills that I have acquired in this training and build on them. Thank you

dkiberu commented 4 years ago

I choose this project as it entails long reads whose processing I have not done before and as such there is a lot to learn.

This is my second choice
