HCAP 2016

  1. Navigate to https://hrsdata.isr.umich.edu/data-products/rand
  2. Click on 2016 RAND HRS Fat File under Biennial Products
  3. Use the "create an account" option in the yellow box directly under the blue heading
  4. Return back to the 2016 RAND HRS Fat File Page and look under the HRS Data Portal header on the right to open the Sensitive Health Data page
  5. The Sensitive Health Data Order Form will be highlighted in blue in the introduction paragraph
  6. Upon opening the link, you will have to open the Sensitive Data Access Use Agreement This will need to be filled out, saved to your computer, and uploaded to the Sensitive Health Data Order Form For our needs, we used Eggers Hall, 110, 1020, Syracuse, NY, 13244, (Syracuse University Economics Department) as our address, and Sophie's account information as our username (srhaber@syr.edu), phone, and email.
  7. After uploading the Sensitive Data Access Use Agreement, you will select 2016 Harmonized Cognitive Assessment Protocol (HCAP).
  8. hrsdatareq@umich.edu will send you an email about a week later to confirm your access to the data set and provide you with instructions for unzipping the data.

RAND 2016 HRS

  1. Navigate to https://hrsdata.isr.umich.edu/data-products/rand
  2. Click on 2016 RAND HRS Fat File under Biennial Products
  3. Click on "log in" from the options in the yellow rectangle right under the heading
  4. Scroll to the bottom of the page to the header "Data Files" and click on STATA Dataset
  5. Unzipping the downloaded files a) Download software designed for unzipping files, such as 7-Zip or WinZip. We used 7-Zip. b) Open your chosen software c) Open the file manager and navigate to the downloaded files d) Select the "extract" button e) Once the extract window opens, select the "..." button next to the files name f) Select the location for where you want the files to be extracted to, and click "Ok" g) Click "Ok" in the extract window and your files will begin extracting

@sophiehaber If you're only using one of the datasets, you only need to include the instructions for accessing the one you use.
