The Effect of Education on Dementia and Cognitive Health

This repository contains the supportining materials and replication package for the report on prolonged education's impact on dementia and cognitive health in older ages by Ixora Artis, Sophie Haber, Abigail Mondin, and Luke Sippel.

  • Dataset with a reduced number of variables (note: the original dataset was too big to put onto Github so it can be found in the shared OneDrive in the DIOP folder, 2016 RAND HRS subfolder, h16f2c_STATA (1) subfolder, labeled as h16f2c.dta)
  • Overleaf .tex file

  • Subfolder within the final submission folder contains all of the necessary files to compile the .tex file for the final report

    Accessing the 2016 RAND HRS dataset

    1. Navigate to https://hrsdata.isr.umich.edu/data-products/rand
    2. Click on 2016 RAND HRS Fat File under "Biennial Products"
    3. Click "create an account" from the options in the yellow rectangle under the heading
    4. Scroll to the bottom of the page to the header "Data Files" and select the "STATA dataset" file, this downloads a zip file
    5. Unzip the downloaded file

    a) Download software designed for unzipping files, such as 7-Zip or WinZip; we used 7-Zip

    b) Open your chosen software

    c) Open the file manager and navigate to the downloaded files

    d) Select the "extract" button

    e) Once the extract window opens, select the "..." button next to the files name

    f) Select the location for where you want the files to be extracted to, and click "Ok"

    g) In the extract window, click "Ok" and your files will begin extracting
