epri-dev / StorageVET

StorageVET 2.0 is a valuation model for analysis of energy storage technologies and some other energy resources paired with storage. The tool can be used as a standalone model, or integrated with other power system models, thanks to its open-source Python framework. Request to include StorageVET in the Hazard Mitigation Planning Toolkit for Electric Coops #14

Open invisibleroads opened 2 years ago

We are assembling a toolkit to help electric coops plan upgrades. Can we include StorageVET in the toolkit?

StorageVET will be listed under the EPRI organization profile and the authors will be credited in the acknowledgments. If CrossCompute receives revenue, EPRI will receive revenue share that is proportional to how often StorageVET is used.

How do you envision the ideal user experience for a utility planner using a web-based StorageVET to optimize battery placement?

I would suggest that you include the latest and greatest - DER-VET - instead of StorageVET (website and github)

I also think it would be good to refer to our open source licensing in the toolkit.

Given that EPRI is a public benefit organization, our legal team would have to work with CrossCompute to setup the royalty agreement, which would likely be non-standard and highly likely not to include royalties going to EPRI.

If we can do these things, I think it would be great to include DER-VET in the toolkit.

There are many ways a utility planner can use DER-VET, but typical utility use cases include:

  1. Evaluating responses to RFPs to select the best option using a validated, open-source and unbiased tool
  2. Selecting an appropriate size for a particular storage system in a particular use case
  3. Differentiating between technology options (e.g. storage type), capacity guarantee contract or warranty options, etc. during procurement
  4. Identifying the best location on the grid for energy storage ...and much more.
