Some known issues with numpy 2.0 compatibility to be fixed:

ser.py uses np.string_ which is deprecated.

This is now fixed. There are two new releases of interest:

v1.11.3: this is compatible with numpy < v2. The install script (setup.py) has been changed to enforce numpy < 2.
v1.12: this is compatible with numpy >= v2 (for now). See #66 for changes
