seems to happen if git tags are not there: https://stackoverflow.com/questions/4916492/git-describe-fails-with-fatal-no-names-found-cannot-describe-anything
Isn't the actual problem this o e: No such file or directory
I don't remember whether ninja was automatically downloaded, or a precondition. What is your mac version and platform? Can you try installing ninja from e.g. brew and then try again?
Strange. Ninja is supposed to be installed during the build...
Ok so it seems the build installs ninja 1.10.2, but then tries to run ninja 1.10.0. Let me see...
Can you please wipe out .embuild and then cargo clean and try again?
That helped.
I'm still having the same issue on Windows. Removed embuild, wiped cargo output, still same problem

Can you re-run the build but with env var RUST_BACKTRACE=1
exported and set priot to running, so that we can see where exactly the Rust build code fails for you?
I was having a similar issue compiling under windows, seems to be caused by a bug in embuild. PR here: https://github.com/esp-rs/embuild/pull/56
Fixed with embuild version 0.29.3
, just run cargo update
.
Thanks, @glynnmccabe for the fix!
On macOs 11.6.2.
