• Improve introduction and data description by giving the reader some background of astronauts and how the data was sourced
• Determine if there were any lurking variables - e.g. In section 3, we can explore sociodemographic factors to tell us more about gender disparity in astronauts. For example:
  • Are most astronauts in the military or civilian?
  • What are the common occupations of astronauts?

Plots and tables

• Add numerical summary that articulate the results of the plots
• Add comments to codes for better reproducibility
• Improve figure captions that gives a brief summary of the plot
• In terms of the timeline, we can look at it through 'decades' instead of years to compare trends
• Modify axis and legend names
• Modify colour of plots to be more consistent
• Set a common theme for plots

New Question: What are the Trends in Collaboration Among Astronauts of Different Nationalities?

Original report stated:

"In general ... Global astronautical exploration competition between each government is fierce, and the competition has reached the peak in 1985"

• To expand on this point, I will be evaluating on the collaboration of astronauts across all the different countries over the years.
  • Did global competition between countries diminish over the years?
  • As most astronauts are made up of U.S. astronauts and cosmonauts (Russian astronauts), in which year did we see the collaboration increase between them, if any?
  • Further, in Figure 3.4, astronauts outside of U.S. astronauts and cosmonauts emerged only in the late 1970s. Based on their lack of experience, do they work together with U.S. astronauts and cosmonauts, who has significantly more experience? Or do they still work in groups exclusively within themselves due to global competition or other factors?

New Question: With a smaller proportion that female astronauts have, did they also have less mission time?

From the statement of the previous report:

Overall, female astronauts have started to appear frequently in space exploration and experienced a general increase tendency. However, female astronauts are still accounted for a low share compared with male astronauts.

We would like to enrich this analysis by comparing mission lengths between men and women in outer space.

• Even with a smaller proportion, do women have a smaller mission time than men?

• We also want to explore whether background (civil/military, or jobs) affects the selection of astronauts who will serve in space exploration.
