Sending Ethereum ETH from Bitstamp multi-sig smart contract to Bithumb and Huobi - deposit failed #3530

Closed 0marcel0 closed 6 years ago

0marcel0 commented 6 years ago

I made a stupid mistake, I have sent ETH to bithumb.com and huobi.com directly from my bitstamp.net account and after 5 days the money still does not appear in my accounts.

I called Bithumb on the phone and it seems that there is another about 50 cases before my case, but they give me no ETA

Huobi told me that they need about one month to solve my issue :(

Someone who encountered the same problem and solved the problem till now?

p069128 commented 6 years ago

Please keep me posted on your timeline. Same issue with me on Stamp to Thumb. 3 weeks so far. Last message I got from Thumb worries me. It said be patient but it may not be possible to recover!! What??

0marcel0 commented 6 years ago

@p069128 You're scaring me. I've sent lots of ETHs to Bithumb.

Bithumb informed that because the transaction was made through multi-sig account, this may take a quite a while to be fully assessed. Moreover, there is also a chance that my deposit might not be retrieved for the same reason.

I will post here any update about my deposit issues.

0marcel0 commented 6 years ago

@p069128 follow these steps:

Please go to '1:1 Inquiry' under 'Customer support'. Then, for 'Type of question', click '[신청서양식] 가상화폐 입출금누락 확인요청' ([Request Format] Cryptocurrency Deposit/Withdrawal Omission Confirmation Request) Please write your 'Mobile number'. Check your name. Then, for '코인종류' (Coin Type), select 'ETH' (ETH). For '입출금구분' (Deposit/Withdrawal), select '입금' (Deposit) type '수량' (Quantity); write your '지갑주소' (Wallet Address); put your TXID number. After writing all necessary information, click 'confirm'.

p069128 commented 6 years ago

Just sent another 1:1 message to Thumb. They replied immediately and said “we are aware and will forward request to head office. Within 2 days our head office will respond but after that it will take a couple weeks to fix it.”

I am just wondering if anyone out there ever got this issue resolved with Bithumb? I know it can take 30 days for some, but I have yet to find someone from Bithumb that finally got it resolved? Anyone out there?

Also if Bithumb and all the other exchanges update their software to automatically accept “internal” smart ETH contracts will this solve the issue for all the past issues? I understand “contact wallet”, smart contract, and internal transaction but now Bithumb is saying the issue is “multi signatures”. Is it harder to manually post the smart contracts on large transactions versus small ones? I will gladly pay a 10% fee since I technically caused this issue.

We need to find an inside employee at Bithumb and Pay him some overtime to get ours done

0marcel0 commented 6 years ago

It happened because Bitstamp use a multi-sign smart contract wallet and Huobi and Bithumb does not accept this transactions type. They my need to upgrade the ETH wallet technology.

When I made the transfer I did not see any warning on the huobi.com and bithumb.com website, maybe because I was tired or did not exist at that time. Anyway, even if there was a warning at the time, it had to be a prompt warning like: red color and bold font or with check-in confirmation.

paintedrough commented 6 years ago

I already had to fill out the request form for the failed deposit twice. They are responsive but never told me that they will be able to fix it. That would be good news at least.

0marcel0 commented 6 years ago

I hope to upgrade their electronic wallet as soon as possible, if they do that. Anyway, I think it's possible to confirm the transfer manually, I do not see any major obstacle from their part. Maybe it's a security measure and they need to trust our Bitstamp smart contract wallet and extra time needed ...I do not know

paintedrough commented 6 years ago

@p069128 did they let you fill out this Korean form where you have to put in TXID quantity etc?

p069128 commented 6 years ago

Yes

Hi guys, I did the same mistake sending ETH from Bitstamp to Huobi, they told me to wait ( got to improve my chinese skills along the way). The transaction has been done 3 days ago - Etherscan.io says transaction is done, just doesnt show up on the huobi balance - you guys got any advise on how to proceed and make sure to retrieve it. I am afraid I cant find any forms online and am sure they dont offer any help via phone.

gapysi commented 6 years ago

Hi, i had the same problem one week ago, iam still waiting reply from Houbi pro :

0marcel0 commented 6 years ago

Now are 11 days and I keep counting, I will call them again tomorrow. I will update here when the issue was fixed and my money credited.

WhiskyWallu commented 6 years ago

Same problem... 49 ETH from Bitstamp to Bithumb a few days ago. I was in contact with customer support and filled the 1:1 inquiry and received a response

(Translated from Korean)"Hello, member, Bitsum Customer Center

I have requested confirmation of your non-payment to the department in charge.

However, as a result of checking your transaction,

We confirm that you have deposited money from your contract wallet.

Please refer to http://www.bithumb.com/u3/US301/ETH [Notice for Deposit of ETH]

When transferring from the contract wallet to the Bitsum wallet as described

Please acknowledge that it may be difficult to reflect the deposit and it takes some time.

Please use your personal wallet when joining the ICO in the future.

For more information, please contact the Bitsum Customer Center (1661-5566).

Thank you"

Called them again and got the impression that it will be fixed but just give it time... Also it says in their ETH wallet "When depositing from contract wallet of Multi-sig and etc, the depoist may not be automatically applied. If possible, please use a normal Ethereum wallet address, and when deposit is not processed, contact Customer Service (1661-556). "

So this can't be too uncommon and I have read about similar cases HitBTC which have been resolved. Staying hopeful here.

paintedrough commented 6 years ago

Waiting for 34 days by now. Patience seems to be the only solution.

0marcel0 commented 6 years ago

I think no deposit will be credited until they will upgrade the ETH wallet. I hope it will be as soon as possible because I am very stressed

99electronic commented 6 years ago

I just made same mistake today! 50ETH I can not belive myself that I did not try first like 0.1ETH as first attempt to test the bithumb.com wallet deposit! Is there anybody who did get the ETH back after same mistake? Anybody at all? I always see just people complaining but never resolved. Customer service seems responsive but that won't help if they do not fix it anyways. Also after I made some calls, I was told that they do fix those issues usually last week of the month (like fixing ETH sent to ETC which is according to them much serious problem) and I should expect my ETH sometimes by the first week of February. So fingers crossed!

99electronic commented 6 years ago

I did also send another deposit using regular wallet and those two went through OK. I see them in the blockchain as IN and then they are sent out to the same address as the internal transaction I did from Bitstamp (so it seems that 3h ago the internal transaction was sent to the same address as those two I sent and was good) That means that they do have the money and they were able to move them out from my deposit address to the same address they did move my 2 good deposits. I still have not have them on my account. How this can be a problem then?

jamiebtc commented 6 years ago

@gapysi how did you get in touch with them? Did you just write an email to the support email? Did you find any forms to fill out for the request to be proceeded? best, Jamie

0marcel0 commented 6 years ago

@jamiebtc The Huobi customer support is totally useless with a very very poor English. Send an email to: support@huobi.pro and then all you can do is pray and wait Huobi to upgrade the ETH wallet soon so they can credit internal transfers, the same thing with Bithumb also...

99electronic commented 6 years ago

I checked the blockchain and 15ETH went right way (I sent it from Binance) and 50ETH went from bitstamp to the internal transfers to the same address. Next transaction is transfer 65ETH out of that address (yes those 50 sent to the contract plus the 15 sent from binance to regular address) so they did move all 65 but keep telling me it will take up to month to fix this. Very weird.

paintedrough commented 6 years ago

37 days and counting, anyone else bithumb updates? hurts the most watching that plunge the last days.

p069128 commented 6 years ago

I think it’s time to band together and have us all under one spot so Bithumb can address us as a group

which channel though?

WhiskyWallu commented 6 years ago

How many has gotten a respons from Bithumb that they will fix it?

paintedrough commented 6 years ago

Latest response:

"Please wait and your transaction will be completed.

Problem is being resolved sequentially."

0marcel0 commented 6 years ago

After about 15 days Huobi confirmed my ETH deposit today. I'm still waiting for Bithumb

TakaMoriHK commented 6 years ago

Yep. Same issue here. Bithumb non responsive.

tib101 commented 6 years ago

0marcel0, same problem here, waiting for 9days now...are u located in Seoul?

paintedrough commented 6 years ago

If you believe what they say, they will do it one by one. Since I am waiting for 38 days, I guess you should be expecting 2 month at least.

tib101 commented 6 years ago

I was able to reach the support and they said 3months a few hours ago...

paintedrough commented 6 years ago

makes you question the purpose of blockchain technology

tib101 commented 6 years ago

They re holding our eth hostage and in 2~3months of time Eth may may just be 20% of their value

thomasj02 commented 6 years ago

In 2-3 months of time, the Korea government might prohibit crypto and the exchange might not exist

tib101 commented 6 years ago

I hope not

TakaMoriHK commented 6 years ago

Yeah, Bithumb just had their office raided and lots on their mind. I wonder what the intermediate-term prioritization is for building out better international connectivity (which I would bucket this issue into).

Definitely makes me worried about the chance for them to focus on fixing this issue (and Korea shutting down exchanges is another fear)

I almost wonder if there's a campaign we could run on social media (I know they have Twitter) or something just to increase the pressure. It's only pressure & pain that will make them care about this cohort of users who've had ETH held hostage.

And PS - I'm hugely reconsidering my view that Crypto is safer than cash. I've never had this happen with cash.

tib101 commented 6 years ago

Did they clearly say that they will do it? I have been told yesterday 3months.... what a joke !

I was told they know my eth was sent and they do see those funds in the blockchain but since it was sent from contract wallet it will be long time. In the deposit page it says "if possible please do not use contract wallet" if they would say "under no circumstances use contract wallet or your funds will be locked for 3 or more months" and they should say it in big red font. It made me think I should not use contract wallet but it's not big deal if I do. I really think the funds will never be deposited and I already took em out of my portfolio as a loss. There is no way this would take more than 30 days. It's just gone. They even sent me message to stop calling and messaging that I will get it but in long time. Which effectively means never.

WhiskyWallu commented 6 years ago

Don't be such a negative nancy ! If they said it will take about three months then give it that time... I'm waiting for my deposit to be credited as well (49 ETH). Overall not too worried about the time frame, because I see Ethereum going higher in the long run. And legislation can take 6-12 months to be implemented from being agreed upon (which can take even longer). This is not China we are talking about. Until I get a definitive NO that they will not credit them, or the Bithumb shuts down, I'm personally not gonna loose any sleep.

99electronic commented 6 years ago

They are supposed to be biggest eth exchange. They need to implement contract wallet for us asap.

99electronic commented 6 years ago

@WhiskyWallu you really think that anybody will talk to you about ETH you sent from unsupported wallet 6 months ago? They will just tell you it is still be worked on as long as you stop bothering them... It would not be my first time (on different exchange) They just stop answering or it will just be too old for them to talk about it with you.

jamiebtc commented 6 years ago

I think we should try to apply some pressure via social media

Yes. I am waiting 30 days for 41 ETH. When I call in they talk a lot about what “reddit” is saying. Anyone have an in with Reddit? Stay anonymous by nicknames, but a good warning to others not to do business with BitThumb with Ether anyway

99electronic commented 6 years ago

I really do not believe it can take more than 30 days. They need at least change the warning on ETH deposit page to warn others not to do same mistake. The warning included now (which thay always send you link to to show you that you were warned about it) is really not enough. It did make me think that it is still possible to use contract wallet.

Adamnfool commented 6 years ago

so I lost some ETH sending from bitstamp to huobi. The only person on here who seems to have had any resolution has been in the same boat (sorry to you Bitthumb folks. Sounds like some BS). Is there anyone else who has had any success or horror stories trying to retrieve ETH from Huobi? been less than a week but this is rubbish

99electronic commented 6 years ago

I do not remember where but I heard of someone to get it from Huobi after like 2 weeks. Much better than bithumb where I never heard about anyone getting their ETH recovered.

jamiebtc commented 6 years ago

Did same mistake on 13th of January from Bitstamp to huobi, have only had a response from huobi that they working on resolving the matter- heard nothing from Bitstamp yet-not sure when this will happen, but gonna keep you posted here

@tib101 No, I'm from Europe

0marcel0 commented 6 years ago

@jamiebtc @Adamnfool I have written above, Huobi credited my ETH after 15 days. I had the same problem with Okex also who confirmed my transfer after 5 days.

I'm still waiting for Bithumb and I have no ETA and no clear information from them even if they have the fastest "1:1"/phone customer support. I will update here when my issue with Bithumb was fixed and my money credited
