Describe the problem you'd like to solve

A web app that allows users to 'collect' and rate paintings they've seen in-person around the globe. Seeing artworks digitally rarely compares to the experience of seeing them in context and person. Your experiences of artworks may change depending on exhibition-context, location, or simply down to 'real-life expectations'.

Users can upload WHERE they've seen the artwork, RATE that experience of seeing the artwork, and BUILD a personal database on what they've seen for others to compare.

Who are the stakeholders?

Folk who like art, seeing art, or collecting experiences.

Other considerations

Many works are open-source - it could be linked to wikimedia/restricted to artworks within the open source (a huge proportion are), or left to img available or not, but no doubles added to the db.

What is currently being done to solve this problem?

ArtUK, various institutional databases and opensource collections, as well as WikiMedia all display and share their collections, and some implement functionality to 'like' and save, but I can't find an experience akin to goodreads for books, whereby you collect and detail WHERE, WHEN, and, RATE the artworks you've seen. Their focus is on the accessibility to the artworks themselves, and thus serves a different purpose.

It is almost like a digital version of the posters where you can scratch off works you've seen.

What technology might be interesting to explore?

Not too sure yet! But a good implementation of user-created-databases and opportunities to share.
