Partial Erasing of Shapes

Hi all,

so when I draw shapes, e.g. a line, and wish to just erase just a part of that, of course I should select the correct eraser setting

However, even though the eraser setting suggests, that I can partially erase with the "rubber", what I strive over, once touching the drawn shape, e.g. a line, it vanishes completely.
