yes, i've heard similar reports of this, mostly from users of droid razr maxx
strangely. i'm not exactly sure what's going on. i'm guessing its something to
do with available memory (the system might kill off background processes when
memory is low which could be happening to the system sms app). no idea why razr
maxx would have this issue though as it's a new device.

I find it interesting that your other reports if this are razr maxx
owners...its the same version of Android and virtually the same guts as the
bionic and no problems there?
Also, did you see my email about a feature request? I thought itd be great
to make a contact notification profile and be able to apply it to multiple
contacts rather than making the same profile for each individual contact. I
have a notification tone and vibrate pattern I want to use for a number of
contacts but I only made 4 profiles because its so tedious.
Thanks for your time, hope to hear back.

Well I'm not sure if it's also happening on the bionic, i've just heard reports
of it happening on razr maxx. When it happens next can you go into system
settings and check how much memory/RAM is being used? i think its under
applications in settings.

Ditto here, also on a Nexus S, running Android 4.0.4. It's bad enough that I'm
uninstalling, much as I hate to. I can't afford to miss SMSes. I'll gladly
re-install this when the issue gets resolved, as it's a very useful app.
Heck, I'll also be the guinea pig here who has experienced this problem and
will report if the problem occurs without this app installed. ;) I'll try to
get back to you in about a month - should be sufficient time to tell.

happen once, but then I'm not constantly watching my phone. Something's not

I am having the same issue. On Galaxy Nexus with Android 4.0.4. Had to disable
app from fears of missing important texts. Cannot re-enable until this issue is
solved. Clearly this is a much wider issue than it seems. Saw the text in the
notifications bar, but never appeared in the native messaging app. SMS Popup is
simply unusable until this is corrected. What's the next step from here?

FWIW, I'm having occasional disappearing SMS issues even after removing SMS

Not sure if this is an SMSPop issue, or an ICS messaging app issue, but this
has been happening to me on random occasions also. It's especially annoying for
numbers I don't have stored in contacts.

Yes, my SMS disappeared today. It popped up line by line as it arrived, but
when I went to view it did not show in my text messages neither did it show in
the notification window. I was expecting an important SMS and am worried this
was it. Is there a way of retrieving lost text messages from some central bank
or cloud somewhere?

I just had the same issue. A popup appeared, I pressed the close button on the
popup window and went straight into my messages and it was gone. Also as above
there was nothing in the notification window either. I got someone to send me
an SMS straight after and I tried pressing the back key as the original poster
suggested but this did not replicate the fault.
I have had this happen on my old HTC Sensation but put it down to old H/W but
this just happened on my brand new Nexus 4 (less than a week old) so it's not
limited to just one particular device.
It has been working perfectly all morning though and I have had a few messages
come in at the same time so I don't think it is a multi message thing either.
Such a shame as I love this app but had to uninstall for now as I do not want
to loose a message.

Android 4.1.1 -- You can reproduce the problem. While popup is enabled, any
message received while your phone is locked will get lost. Ff your phone is
unlocked and you get the popup, the message isn't lost.
This defeats the purpose of the app if it deletes text message it intercepts.
It was a good app. But I'm uninstalling it until this is fixed.

I have similar problem on HTC Sensation with Android 4.0.3 and SMS Popup 1.2.4.
It happens very rarely but somtimes I just see a notification and then when I
try to open it, the message disappears completely and I can't access it
anymore. It is really annoying as I have to write people back to send it again
or even call them...

I have this issue on my Samsung Galaxy S3 running Android 4.1.1 and SMS Popup
1.2.4.
After a certain number of text messages, new ones start to disappear until I
reboot.
As much as I love SMS Popup for the ability to have custom alerts for each
contact, as I tend to send massive amounts of text messages this is huge issue
for me. Now that I know that SMS Popup is the cause I have decided to disable
it until a bug fix is found.
Please investigate,
Thanks.

I also experience this problem with the Galaxy Nexus. I have not rooted my
phone nor have I made any changes to it beside the automatic software updates.
I do not have the SMS popup app. It happened so sporadically that I just
ignored it, but today it happened twice coming from the same person. My friend
eventually had to email what she was trying to text. At this point I am SO
ANNOYED! There are so many of us reporting this same problem, but when is it
going to get fixed? This is totally UNACCEPTABLE! Google/Android (whoever), GET
IT TOGETHER! If you want to retain your patrons, fix the glitch! I'm sure iOS
users do not experience this issue. Don't make me regret choosing Android!

I notice this too. While reading an SMS, if you get a new SMS in the
notification bar, I don't see the message in the SMS app. Apparently the newly
arrived SMS goes into some kind of hidden storage.
Using SMSBackupAndRestore App, I notice that the application backs up more
messages than I see in the SMS viewer app. And the extra messages are the ones
that I missed earlier. So these messages are located somewhere on the storage,
but not visible in the SMS app.

I can confirm this on my original Nexus 4 with current stock 4.3 and stock sms
app (not rooted, locked bootloader). When I'm opening the stock android
messenger app at the time i receive a message i can see it in the notification
bar but it is not visible in the app - never, even after force close or reboot.
I had exactly the same issue on my previous htc sensation with CM10 (kang). It
might be an issue of android 4.x as i didn't experience this before.
Somebody can confirm this behaviour?

I can confirm the most recent poster's experience. This exact scenario has
happened to me twice when receiving a logon verification code via text. I saw
the text notification in the notification bar, but I happened to start the
Messaging app at that same moment and the text disappeared, never to be seen
again. This is using the stock Messaging app in stock Android 4.2.2 on my
Verizon Galaxy Nexus.
