AVG anti-virus reports alert with Glossarist Desktop #69

On a Windows machine with AVG anti-virus, it reports Glossarist Desktop as an issue at C:\Users\{username}\AppData\Local\glossarist-updater.

after downloading double click the downloaded file, it must be installing to that location i sent and must be putting some link on the desktop back to that location in appdata. i was expecting it to run from the downloaded file. perhaps that is not the case..

We don’t actually use an updater right now. I believe it may be bundled by electron-builder, but it’s so far unused, we could turn it off if that helps.

The surjection is that this occurs because old-uninstaller.exe is not signed.

ronaldtse commented 4 years ago

This occurs with https://github.com/glossarist/glossarist-desktop/releases/download/v1.6.0/install-glossarist-desktop-1.6.0.exe

ReesePlews commented 4 years ago

i have noticed that the app is reported as "still running" even though it was "closed". also this avg window appeared during the install process of 1.6.0 __tmp_image_upload__

ReesePlews commented 4 years ago

some additional examples of trying to install the update... __tmp_image_upload__

__tmp_image_upload_2

__tmp_image_upload_3

__tmp_image_upload_4

a "retry" was successful for the install. AVG trapped the application and scanned it, then restarted it and it seems to run ok.

i am concerned in certain environments (national mapping agencies/govt offices), our members will not have direct control over their PCs for doing an install. this will definitely create issues. i cannot offer any advice to clear this issue. non-networked pcs and personal machines may be the only options in those cases.

I've added a non-install link on the glossarist desktop page, hope this helps. (although it is tangent to the current discussion)

@ronaldtse thank you, that no-install version may help with the issue in some cases. i will check that later.
