NOCODE HID in glottolog-cldf #21

Closed HedvigS closed 12 months ago

HedvigS commented 12 months ago

can future glottolog-cldf releases please include the glottolog attribute "hid" in addition to the ISO 639-3 codes?

For example, "NOCODE_Allentiac" for alle1238.

It would improve my life.

Please and thank you.

Can you tell me how you would want to use this attribute? So far, it is considered an "implementation detail", allowing backwards compatibility with Harald's processing tools.

HedvigS commented 12 months ago

I would like it either in the ValueTable or LanguageTable, as you see fit. i think ValueTable fits better, but up to you. This would help me when collaborating with Harald as he appears to prefer HID over glottocodes.

@d97hah Glottocodes are just one dict away! Should we really push yet another identifier on the unsuspecting public?

d97hah commented 12 months ago

IMHO the few people that use HID:s can convert them via pyglottolog or similar, that would be less effort than to explain the differences to the public when pushing yet another identifier. I can decipher the chain of events that lead to this request and I can assist Hedvig with the conversion for that case if needed.

For this chain of events all is good, because I learned that timespan is the same as year of documentation in glottolog-cldf (#20 ). This isn't the first time though, so I just wanted to flag it as a request.

When it happens again, I'll find a work-around or start up pyglottolog again. I get it, let's not complicate things.
