sHi, In 2023 I do have plans to support new models. I already have a few ones planned, but I can consider to take more o swap some of them if the community has a lot of interests in some specific models.

So, Is your router in the list below?

• YES -> then thumb it up 👍

• NO -> is your router alrady supported by me (DSL/RT-AX82U or DSL-AC68U) or RMerlin (https://www.asuswrt-merlin.net/download) ?

  • YES -> then all good you are lucky! :D nothing to do for you!
  • NO -> is your router running firmware 386.x?
  • YES - please add a new comment below with router model and link to asus page
  • NO - Merlin won't easily work on this router and i do not have plan to support it for sure. Sorry!

How about the RT-AC67P? I just got one and was disappointed that the included firmware lacks the traffic analyzer section. It has the much less useful "traffic monitor." I upgraded from a very old AC68P and have been really depending on that feature.

@gnuton On the specs page for the router it does say that it runs AsusWRT, although admittedly the version number is different, but I was curious about the feasibility. Sorry to be a bother! Hopefully at some point the router will get better support from ASUS or elsewhere, a shame if not, as the hardware itself is quite good.

On the list might be the RT-AX1800s. Dual core, 4 threads BCM.

It is being sold for $70, and works great as an AIMesh node: AX (80 but not 160) . No USB, and therefore no addons.

But 128 rom, 256 ram, and I expect wireguard will be added in future. If so it could be a really good router, particularly for a second home.

I know the idea is a little out of keeping with the folks that have $1500 worth of arachnoid routers in a 50Watt mesh. But $70 for compatible AX quad core?

Wanted to call out that the ET12 isn't supported by Merlin, and it doesn't sound like there is planned support (https://www.snbforums.com/threads/does-asuswrt-merlins-xt12-firmware-support-et12.79338/#post-783528), so prime potential for GNUton support right?!

The MediaTek chipsets MT7621AT and MT7622BV are VERY slow. Not a lot of capacity. I had Belkin RT3200/Linksys EA8450 running MT7622BV which is 50% faster than the MT7621AT and it was terrible. The router was very CPU challenged under any load at all.
