OpenEVE Gingerbread alpha is CM7.0-RC4.
and OpenEVE Gingerbread beta will be CM7 or the latest snapshot of the
CyanogenMod repo.

So I just upload only to fix issue #3 problem at issue #3 (not included

good that you integrate many fixs in the system image , so just we must install
any boot, no update-gb-*.zip ??

update-gb-core.zip has many other codecs. but i think it is not work properly.

and the System.img snapshot has only verified libs.

the old libopencore* is not working now.

it was removed but migrated into the libstagefright.
----
libOmx*Dec.so / libOmx*Enc.so are proprietary codecs
already installed in the Alpha version.

newly added libOmxCore.so + libmm-omxcore.so are just wrapper libs.
these libs enable libOmx*Dec/Enc.

and additionally added two libs.
 - libqcomm_omx.so : not known
 - libmmpil.so : maybe libcamera.so use it.

i test most things using boot-gb-110429-snapshot-224mb.zip
smoother and faster , some overheat , display colors looks great.
Arabic font is cool ,FM radio is OK , camera is OK
battery seems to serves shorter. overall m it's great , but i don't know whats
new, cause I'm applying the fixes by you, this image must equal=old system + all
patches,
but really , somethings changes ,fonts, speed, heat, smooth.
anyway , I'm considering this system as ultimate release.
than you man.

Is it better to use the 224mb boot image, instead of the 236mb boot image?
I'm trying flashing the new system image first
then installing the codec zip file
then installing the 236mb boot image

Original comment by rais...@gmail.com on 1 May 2011 at 9:41

GoogleCodeExporter commented 9 years ago
you don't need the codec file anymore.
the important codecs are in the new system.img.
the others in the codec file don't work always correctly.

And the question for the 224mb boot.img
do you want that the AMSS modem runs more smoothly or do you want more RAM for
the other applications?
i use WLAN for the internet and not my handy as modem for my computer.
i used the other boot.img because i wanted more ram for all the other
applications. =)

Original comment by Katzen...@gmail.com on 1 May 2011 at 9:50

GoogleCodeExporter commented 9 years ago
@rais // you don't have to install codec at all.
it is already included in the new System.img.

you can try any of 224MB, 236MB boot imgs.
236MB boot.img have been verified to work with V20G firmware.
not all of V10x / V20x firmwares are verified now.

Original comment by wkp...@gmail.com on 1 May 2011 at 10:29

GoogleCodeExporter commented 9 years ago
Ah, well unfortunately I've already installed the new OpenEVE system snapshot,
the codec zip file, and the 236mb boot image, and gapps again, since I seemed
to be missing google search afterwards.

I did this on top of my existing OpenEVE install that was using the boot image
snapshot from April 21, no wipes. It seems to have worked, and all my apps and
data seem to have remained.

Is this a problem that I installed the codecs even though I didn't need to?
If so, should I revert this somehow?

Also sorry, but I don't really understand about what the AMSS modem means, or
what it is for.
I want to have more RAM available, but I never seem to see more than 70-80mb,
nothing like 200 mb.
I use WLAN sometimes, but I use my data connection when I'm away from home, but
I don't really tether.

Do I need to do a clean install maybe? Wipe all partitions, clean install,
then restore all my apps and data?

A related question, with all the new files that are released, is there any
change to the installation guide?

I was assuming that the steps would be:

(potentially wipe partitions, or maybe not necessary)
fastboot flash system system-*.img
fasbtoot boot gb-recovery.img
install boot-*.img
install gapps-*.img

I know I am just jam packed with questions, so sorry about that :D
Thanks a lot for your responses guys!

GoogleCodeExporter commented 9 years ago
1. you don't have to remove/revert already installed codecs. some codecs turned
out to be useless but its ok.

2. AMSS modem firmware is located at a hidden nand partion and it must be
loaded into the some reserved ram area. some old firmware need 32MB for AMSS
modem firmware and newest AMSS modem firmware needs 20MB.

total maximum ramsize = 256MB - reserved ramsize of AMSS modem (20MB or 32MB)

3. available memory is not same as total maximum memory.

236MB(or 224MB) - 8MB (gpu1) - 12MB (mdp pmem) - 8MB (adsp pmem for dsp) - ~6MB
(kernel) - ~5MB(android OS) = ~197MB (or 185MB)

total ~197MB/(or ~185MB) is maximum available memory.

so you can see this info at the "Settings=>about phone=>meminfo"

Original comment by wkp...@gmail.com on 2 May 2011 at 12:40

GoogleCodeExporter commented 9 years ago
OK, so it doesn't mean I have more available RAM for running applications, but
it does have something to do with me having more room to install applications.
It looks like I have an additional 10mb free in "Settings=>Storage=>Available
space"

It looks like playing mp4 video works now, so that's pretty cool!

Thanks again

I think I'm having the same battery issue.
I notice on my phone that the GPS status bar icon is always on, maybe this has
something to do with it?

I just tested the headset during a call, it looks like my earphones are working
as speakers (before when I plugged in headphones, I could not hear the call at
all, just some background static), but the headset mic is not enabled.
The phone's internal mic is picking up the sound.

just a question to wk, will be posible to rewrite the amss on the ram, so the

@adumsong //

basically yes.
but there are some hardware variant exists so It is not guarantee that it will
work with another AMSS modem firmware. It may be brick your phone :>

so It is important to use the specific official firmware
provided by the network provider.

Original comment by justsad.eng@gmail.com on 3 May 2011 at 7:23

without fastboot you can't install custom firmware.

AMSS modem is a part of firmware
but there is no known way to install only the part of AMSS modem.

Firmware = AMSS modem firmware + fastboot + oembootloader + boot.img +
system.img + etc.
