• I used the existing .env file to store the API key for sendgrid (removing it from github)
• the /util/test_sendgrid.js file is not meant for production code but just a quick way for the developer to see the send email method (where to to: email address should be updated to your email in order to get a message
• generally require('dotenv') should only need to be done in the server app.js but I'm having some server issues so it is also in the test file
