We need logs to continue please reproduce the issue and grab the logs. If you are unsure which is the error you can post the full logs and remove gps and your URL from them as we don't need that to troubleshoot.
Hereby the log:
when the issue happens does it take 10 seconds for the pop-up to show up? we have a delay of 10 seconds where we wait for the server to respond to the app and it seems that were never notified the app connected to the server based on the logs. Just to confirm where you able to reproduce the issue before grabbing the logs here?
No the message is shown directly. I deliberately waited before hitting retry.
Every time I open up the app the issue is there. Only after hitting retry I can grab the logs as the menu is otherwise not available.
I only get this screen when opening the App outside of my home WiFi. After 10 seconds this popup appears But no matter what I choose it won't connect to HA. Opening the external URL in a Browser works fine as always.

This differs from mine as I cannot connect via the app at all as soon as I'm not home. Should I open my issue as a separate issue?
@R-dehaan ok your error is a HA frontend error, that retry screen is not from the app itself. Please log a bug with the HA frontend and fill out their issue template completely. They ask for different data than we do.

Connecting directly on the local network goes without issues.

Additional information: HomeAssistant is running on a VM and gets connected via reverse proxy. No issues at all from this setup on laptop/desktop, only the companion app seems to have this behaviour
