How to name the project? #29

Not a big fuss, but with the recent changes (and my intention) the app does pretty well on any CSV file. Should we reflect that in name?

Regarding NuPIC ..., PROS:

CONS:

A few names come to my mind: {anomaly, data, graph, interactive}.visualizations, I think I like the 1st best. Thoughts @jefffohl @rhyolight ? :thought_balloon:

Something generic is good. I have a couple of places I'd like to use it already:

This is all just temporal charting, so perhaps replace "visualizations" with "charts" to shorten the name. Maybe even "htm.charts" since we're primarily using them to display data, predictions, and anomalies.

rhyolight commented 8 years ago

This is pretty closely tied to visualizing HTM data, even if it does do some general plotting as well. I think we should name it something like "htm-charts".

breznak commented 8 years ago

... I don't like the "htm" that much, as it's really just 1 use-case, you can plot any (time-series) data. for example I'm using it now to browse ECG signal.

Then definitely something that explains that it's about time-series data...

I am toying with the name, "CSV VCR", because it is basically a way to treat a CSV like a VHS tape (that is, in the most current incarnation) - in that you can play a CSV file sort of like a video tape. My future ideas are to add controls for rewinding, setting the data window size, and scrubbing back and forth across the file. Also, tapes are inherently time-based. Finally, I like the way it rolls off the tongue. What do you guys think?

breznak commented 8 years ago

I don't mind, sounds nice. But i wouldn't know what VCR is :P or something like "SignalsPlayer" ? This is one of the toughest issues ;) I just figured a name of a visualization tool Visualization Tool sucks

Hahaha - I am too old, I guess! In case you are serious, and don't know what a VCR is, it stands for Video Cassette Recorder. The reason I thought it was applicable, is that since we are generally working with really large files, and have to window them, the app is starting to resemble a tape player. That is - something you scan across, scrub back and forth, etc.
