Odd gradient highlight showed up in version 9.x #269

I use version 8.5.2 for my personal site and recently bumped to the latest version (9.1.2). Now there is this odd gradient outline around the empty nav bar at the top of the page. Screenshot attached.

Is there a way to turn that style off? It looks silly having a highlight around an otherwise invisible box.
