Could CC work for code given that it's suggested for data?

CC recommend not to use thier licenses for code, at least thats what they suggested last time I looked it up: https://creativecommons.org/about/program-areas/software/

they suggest an open source license, like GPL or MIT - https://opensource.org/licenses/
