Enable CAN on the Video Kit

Investigation done so far

1. Generated design with 8MHz clock as advised by microchip
2. Performed Loopback test
3. Tested the code changes in the u54_1.c provided by microchip
4. Tested with other modifications to the baremetal code

Still not receiving data on the logic analyzer

• The CANL signal is incorrectly low in the idle state when the board is powered on; it should be high, with CANH being low.
• After sending CAN messages, trash data is received on the logic analyzer .
• When the board is off, CANL is correctly high, and the messages are visible on the logic analyzer.

The following figure summarizes the different test scenarios performed :

• The CAN datasheet reveals a standby signal that, when pulled high, causes CANH and CANL to be pulled low
• Attempted to resolve the issue by enabling CAN_0_TX_EBL and CAN_1_TX_EBL and pulling the resistor low from Libero, but the problem persists.

• Use the latest linux kernel for the video kit
• Enable CAN on the HSS

Side note : A member of their support team will be actively debbuging the issue with the baremetal example.

Sent messages using the cansend command.

Steps taken :

• Regenerated the job file with CAN support enabled and configured the MSS to use an 8 MHz clock.
• Utilized the Linux driver for CAN transmission.
