Subtitle timing seems to just overlap. Dunno if the different subtitle "renderer" affects anything. I tried to enhance the subtitle handling by keeping the previous line if its duration overlaps the new line one.

It's probably not easy but it would be great if you'll add the option to have a black background to the subtitles (like the original YT player).
You are probably right..no option in VLC Web Plugin.. :(

Watching this video without VLCtube displays 2 lines of subtitles which make it easier to follow than VLCtube's 1 line only.
