Currently the local contacts are read using the AddressBook DBus service, permitted by the 'contacts' policy. However the latter is reserved for official apps, an using it blocks this app getting in the store.
Switch to using the content-hub as Dekko and Telegram do. It is more convoluted and worse UX but there seems to be no way around it.
