Pain point: 3D and VFX Artists often avoid reinventing the wheel. They like to reuse 3D meshes they have already made themselves, or look for one online before they consider modelling it from scratch for their scenes. Most 3D models found online come with a price tag. Here, independent artists and newbies to modelling would be disadvantaged because it can be cost-prohibitive to buy many models for the projects. Free 3D models are hard to find, and it requires a lot of time and patience to sift through the websites to find the best match needed.

When it comes to finding matches, one person's imagination isn't identical to another. Hence, the models you find online are more likely to not match your idea of how the mesh would look like. Say, I wanted a 3D model of pine tree. The shape, size, shading and the polygon count of the pine tree I need for my project may not be the same as what I find online.

Solution and Project Idea: An app that allows users to search for 3D meshes would work wonders to solve these issues. Ideally, the user must be able to search for 3D meshes primarily by text or images. (Images are often used in 3D modelling just like how references are used to draw/paint in art). An option to search using 3D meshes could also be helpful in some cases where the user would require a close match. But in most situations, artists are looking for a model so that they don't have to create one, so searching by text and image are the most important options we need. Jina would then retrieve models that match the text or image supplied by the user.
