Linux support #117

Open GoogleCodeExporter opened 8 years ago

GoogleCodeExporter commented 8 years ago
Am I the only one asking for Linux support? Please tell us if there are any
plans to support it in the future. This is a great product, but I can't
even use it because of this. Thanks

We need this plugin for Linux (and why not the Google Earth Api too?).

I use Google Earth plugin to represent scientific data about bush fires in
Madagascar
(http://fire.vakanala.org), and as a linux user, it's very painful to not be
able to
work with my normal environment, and have to launch a VM ...

Please Google, be nice with linux, as linux is nice with you :)

Add me to the list of disenfranchised Linux users, why don't Google make Linux a
priority, not a last option. There would be more collaborative feedback from
this
community than either OSX or the other operating system!

PLEEEAAAAAASSE give us some news !
as the above mentionned "paragliding simulator in googlearth plugin"
developper, i
feel REALY frustrated as i can't test and use my own application !
dual booting is not a long term (2 years and a half now?) solution and google
deserves to show better in interoperability and all web users service and
respect.
At least (!) let us how what to expect in the future.
Thanks for your work anyway !
best regards,
raphael.

As most web sites are hosted on Linux servers (true) and Linux user base is
growing
due to poor commercial decisions by the other two major OS vendors, Google
would be
well advised to take Linux users a bit more seriously. Either do what's asked
or
open source it so it can be done for you. It will make commercial sense in the
end.

Regards.

+1 Linux!
As a developer I would never ever use this feature without native/stable Linux
support. As a user I would be pleased if at least a wine based version like
with
picasa could be made.

I do not know about you but I am starting to feel really annoyed with Linux
always
being the ugly duckling on this announcements of new features... if you develop
it
for mac OS x and windows is it too much to ask that you also consider the
millions of Linux users?

Don't forget that your business is based on open source software and it is
essential
to have a large community of users that see Linux as a great alternative to the
2
main platforms... How the hell are we going to pull people to Linux if the
development for that platform seems to always be an afterthought. :S

Despite anyone can code "its own plugin" with NASA Worldwind, it is not as
reliable
& accurate as Google Earth. And it is Java.

So please dear google developers, consider porting your wonderful work on Linux.

Otherwise should we think that it is your policy in order not to compete with
GPS
device manufacturers or your own port of GE on mobile devices ?

Or is it just a technical problem ?

I want a Google Earth plug-in for Linux! ( Firefox please )

Original comment by mnk...@gmail.com on 19 May 2010 at 2:08

GoogleCodeExporter commented 8 years ago
Add me to the list. This a pretty big fail on google's part.

especially because it will still advirtise the plugin when I am on google maps
on
linux. Ever hear of useragent confirmations before showing certain content?

Original comment by WACOM...@gmail.com on 20 May 2010 at 6:24

GoogleCodeExporter commented 8 years ago
I actually like that it mentions the plugin in Linux even though it doesnt have
it
ready yet. For this very reason I came here to add my vote for Linux support!
I won't say its a fail if this gets implemented soon enough... So, I hope
someone
there gets this going immediately!

Thanks for google maps and all plugins,
Thomas

Google boys and girls, can you please focus on Linux too? I don't want anything
to do
with Windows, I'm 100% Ubuntu since long and would love all features available
there
too. By when can we expect the Google Earth plugin?

I'd also like to see this browser plugin for linux - either chrome or firefox
or both.

I think it's great that google earth works in linux, and I'd like to see at
least an
announcement of plans to eventually create a linux version of the browser
plugin.
