Just a thought here guys, gals and fellow Tuxes...
Google Inc. is a *business* not a charity, do-gooder or whatever. They are
presumably in *business* to make a profit for their shareholders.
Can anyone put forward a compelling *business* reason why Google should
implement earth-api-samples support for Linux? It might just help them to take
this issue more seriously than they seem to be (not) doing at present.
(Be sure to STAR (way up there in the top left) when you respond, else it don't
count for much).

Good business reasons?
From the Eclipse community Survey 2009: "Linux was at 20% for development
platform in 2007 and in 2009 Linux has risen 7 points to 27% who use it as
their development platform." By extrapolation, we represent 30% of the
developers this year and continuing growing.
In January 2009 the New York Times stated: "More than 10 million people are
estimated to run Ubuntu today".
In April 2010 Chris Kenyon, vice president for OEM at Canonical Ltd. estimated
that there were 12 million Ubuntu users.
Moreover, every day schools migrate to Linux.
There is a market and it's simply growing!

According to CNET survey, 96.41% of Linux users use Google as preferred site
for Search and related applications. It just makes simple business sense in
keeping them intact and loyal. If they move to windows, it also just "might"
mean losing them to Bing.
Its surprising that almost all Google products are available on Linux flavors
such as Ubuntu. Google Earth based applications should also be available on
Linux.

Linux support would indeed be great, got a project which I can't run on Linux
clients because of the missing plugin. Another thing I really do miss is
support for Flash/Sound files in GE but thats for another topic.
Knowing that google did not even answer to this request does not let em shine ;)

I run openSuSE at home, and want to put add more maps functionality to my
(MediaWiki) web-site. I would like to have GE, but if I can't see it???...
I know you use Linux to process and serve your data; why not keep more
up-to-date with Linux on the client-end?

I'm a huge google fan. I develop google maps and google earth application using
ubuntu.
I had to resort to using virtualbox to test my application in XP in GE due to
the lack of a GE plugin in linux. I have even found that GE in ubuntu is less
stable than its windows version as some kmz[s] that I develop crashes GE in
ubuntu but not on XP

Yeah it is pretty ridiculous that there is no Google Earth plugin for Ubuntu,
considering how many developers and even lay users around the world run it.
You'd think Google would pay more attention to such an incredibly rapid-growing
OS.

It is interesting to note that there is now a Google Earth Application for
Android. This is a non-Microsoft development platform based on Unix and Java.
So it will be interesting to find out what programmatic API's are provided for
that platform.
