Only latitudes north of 57°N and south of 72°S (?) need to be rotated! Most regions do not require the rotated vector fields to be derived. Suggest (1) in making the derived fields, check for latitudes poleward of +57 / -72 and check for the presence of angle variables - if present, rotate U/V/tauU/tauV; (2) when loading derived variables, check for these rotated variables merge them if present
