What the title says.

v 16.5.0 RC: http://download.semperpax.com/spmc/android-arm/SPMC-20161121-1c72918-spmc-jarvis-armeabi-v7a.apk

Package name is different, so can be installed side-by-side with a released SPMC

Changelog:

For testing Youtube 4K, install this repo https://codeload.github.com/koying/repository.semperpax.com/zip/master You'll find a temporary hacked YT addon, until support is added to the official addon.

rainman74 commented 7 years ago

First: Package name is not different anymore 16.5.0 RC ;-)

Bug: 16.5.0 RC isn't working on Samsung Galaxy Tab S2, Android 6.0.1 (Re-Touched-Skin). 16.4.2 works flawlessly, but after starting 16.5.0 app directly jumps back to homescreen.

Current resolution: 2048x1536

This is the old log of working 16.4.2, 16.5.0 doesn't write a log, because it crashes instantly: http://paste.semperpax.com/prye5fkou

classicjazz commented 7 years ago

Video freeze pbobbykgi

Separately: the lipsync delay improvements and less judder that I noted above appears primarily related to enabling surface v the HQ scaler.

Is v16.5 now finally official?

koying commented 7 years ago

@Gertbucket I've updated the build, should fix the crash

cirrusdex commented 7 years ago

@classicjazz hi classic, just for clarification for a 4K TV with Shield:

<enablehighqualityhwscalers>true</enablehighqualityhwscalers> is in my advancedsettings.xml

turn Surface Off OSD > Video Settings, Deinterlace Method and Video Scaling Method as per wiki

Then turn Surface back On or leave Off?

DaMacFunkin commented 7 years ago

If you turn surface back on then the scalers turn off, you can't have both. TBH there are players on the market now whose scaling is a lot better than the shield so it's use is becoming needed less.

Gertbucket commented 7 years ago

@koying All good. Excellent work!

Thanks

spec1re commented 7 years ago

Now there is a 1 - 3 sec. black screen and audio gap, between switching TV channels.

spmc.log.txt

rainman74 commented 7 years ago

@koying do you already know why 16.5.0 RC isn't working on Samsung Galaxy Tab S2 T819 ?

Android 6.0.1 Resolution: 2048x1536 16.4.2 works flawlessly 16.5.0 app directly jumps back to homescreen and no log file is written

koying commented 7 years ago

Samsung Galaxy Tab S2 T819

No. I'd need a logcat for more details

koying commented 7 years ago

Now there is a 1 - 3 sec. black screen and audio gap, between switching TV channels.

Well, disable "adjust refreshrate" if you don't want it. If you do want it, it's normal.

ziggy73701 commented 7 years ago

Latest release fixed jittering issues I had with 10 bit HEVC, 4k 3d Files and True HD losing sync...

Amazing work!

spec1re commented 7 years ago

Where exactly can I disable the "adjust refreshrate" thing?

Thanks in advanced!

/edit

okay I found it :P.

rainman74 commented 7 years ago

@koying there is no log file at crash time. What should I do ? https://1drv.ms/i/s!Au4QgT0yuh6DjDqZQOsI4jl8deJe

DaMacFunkin commented 7 years ago

@spec1re why would you not want to watch your content in native refresh rate?

rainman74 commented 7 years ago

@koying sorry, you meant a logcat and not spmc.log :-)

there it is for Samsung Galaxy Tab S2 T819: https://1drv.ms/u/s!Au4QgT0yuh6DjDtYOkzTE3AFns8m

App-Version: SPMC-20161124-f3fe946-spmc-jarvis-armeabi-v7a.apk

I'm having one problem with all SPMC 16 builds. My device based on Amlogic S905X chipset. SPMC interface is crashing every time the amlogic hardware acceleration is on. I know I can turn it off but without it videos are much darker, grainier and some jittering occurs. With amlogic on picture is very good and smooth. It doesn't crash playing movies. Only when navigating interface. I've heard that Kodi 17 does not include amlogic codec at all. Does it mean that the new Amlogic chipset won't be supported anymore? That makes no sense. Picture quality using mediacodec is much worse.

koying commented 7 years ago

Would be so great if SPMC included a built-in crash logs uploader, so that you would just have to give me a log reference, wouldn't it?

Oh, wait...

yatoya commented 7 years ago

Yes, it does have crash log uploader :) and I did sent it but wanted also to mention about it on this forum because maybe you or somebody else knows a way to fix it :)

DaMacFunkin commented 7 years ago

It's Android dude, no one knows how to fix any of it.

koying commented 7 years ago

Well, there is a bunch of log uploaded so I need the reference to your specific one. I cannot guess it...

yatoya commented 7 years ago

There's no rush. 16.5 RC is already more stable. Thanks for your work.

showmak commented 7 years ago

Hi @koying I am happy with 16.4.2 on Nvidia Shield, do you think 16.5.0 RC will be better and provide more things? Should I start using it? or better wait until the final release?

rainman74 commented 7 years ago

current version of today is very very stable now:

Using SPMC 16.5 RC1 ,There is an occasional stuttering during video playback (every 30-sec to 1 min) (720p and 1080p video playback ) , i tried all possible Video setting Combinations of changing refreshrate to match video and/or vsynch But the stuttering still exists , to confirm if this is firmware 3.3 or spmc related i tried kodi 17 There was no stuttering with kodi 17 (I left this issue on the issues section sorry for duplication But i felt that the issue belongs here as it is 16.5 related but couldn't delete the other one)

DaMacFunkin commented 7 years ago

I presume from your coded message you are using the Nvidia shield. Since 16.5 spmc only uses surface, if you have high quality scalers enabled, turn them off or turn off Surface. This is posted already in this thread.

opengl1971 commented 7 years ago

To my understanding SPMC 16.5 still uses both: surface and mediacodec , only it defaults to surface But you can still disable surface , enable mediacodec and HQ scalers along with it if you want
(You or koying can correct me if i am wrong here)

koying commented 7 years ago

That, exactly...

DaMacFunkin commented 7 years ago

Which is EXACTLY what i was trying to say but it was too early in the morning lol.

classicjazz commented 7 years ago

Using 11/27 RC, I tried to play a movie only to have no video signal. There was no further response from the Shield or video until I rebooted it.

classicjazz commented 7 years ago

There's been an occasional bug, still present in 11/27 RC on the Nvidia Shield TV v3.3, that downgrades GUI from 2160 to 1080 resolution without user intervention. When this happens, you can go back to the settings menu and change it back. Instead of showing 3840x2160p twice (not sure why the same resolution is always repeated twice), it shows 1920x1080p twice and one 3840x2160p.

I uploaded a debug log but can't tell you the number because then I saw this.... img_0685

opengl1971 commented 7 years ago

As for the stuttering issue still happens when HQ scalers are disabled , in fact it happens Even if there is no scaling at all (1080p content to 1080p display)

DaMacFunkin commented 7 years ago

Have you changed the setting in spmc to enable HQ scalers to never?

koying commented 7 years ago

There's been an occasional bug, still present in 11/27 RC on the Nvidia Shield TV v3.3, that downgrades GUI from 2160 to 1080

@classicjazz Would that happen when manually changing between 4K and 1080p? With refresh rate switching?

classicjazz commented 7 years ago

@koying All settings are per the 4K Shield Wiki. I usually quit SPMC after I am finished watching a video. SPMC is downgrading to 1080 when starting the app. The only other app I have been regularly using is the HDhomerun DVR.

It just did it again. I uploaded the log: p6trxoxyu This time, I don't have the option to change the resolution or refresh rate. Both settings are greyed out.

koying commented 7 years ago

@classicjazz I'm pretty sure you did a manual 4k -> 1080p switch in the android settings. The shield acts funny until you reboot in this situation...

classicjazz commented 7 years ago

Sorry, no i didn't. And I had rebooted the Shield less than 4 hours earlier due to the hang noted above.

Also HDMI CEC is disabled.

saalaataa commented 7 years ago

@koying Just a small suggestion from my side as I just begun to test 16.5.0. As I still have latest stable release on my AFT2 and previous beta 16.4.82 installing 16.5.0 caused 3rd SPMC instance to appeared on my menu. Would it be possible if you all betas to be upgraded and not creating ne instance. Also small beta indication on the icon / or different icon color would be most helpful for all AFT2 users. To the icon itself, would next stable release have higher res icon, as current one looks a little blurry on my device?

Thanks for the great fork and keeping the project alive.

Cheers Salata

Hi there,

using SATV on a 4k TV i am still on SPMC 16.2. Short question, ist the Framerate "bug" solved, so that i can watch 1080p in ycbcr in 24p without falling back to RGB an 1080p 60hz?

THX

showmak commented 7 years ago

Strangely, I installed this release SPMC-20161127-0390d07-spmc-jarvis-armeabi-v7a.apk and it overwrote the installed 16.4.2. In case of instability, can I revert back to 16.4.2?

rainman74 commented 7 years ago

yes, with "adb install -r -d ..." (d for downgrade) or deinstall -> new install

showmak commented 7 years ago

Can't I just re install 16.4.2? Won't that overwrite 16.5.0? I am not happy with 16.5.0, I see video stutters.

EDIT: I tried re install but it didn't work. Really frustrated! I don't want to lose my settings and data, how can I safely downgrade without losing my data?

rainman74 commented 7 years ago

adb kill-server adb start-server adb connect 192.xxx.xxx.xxx adb install -r -d SPMC-armeabi-v7a_16.4.2.apk adb disconnect

-r means: reinstall without losing data -d means: allow downgrade
