Using a “zil” in lujvo seems very useful, but there is not any convention I know of on how to use it in a regular and predictable way to create new lujvo.
I think the only situation where all word-coiners agree on is that if you delete the x1 of a word, putting a “zil” in front of it is safe. However, it gets tricky when any other place gets deleted, or even multiple places.
Open questions (that I think the CLL should clarify):
How to use “zil” to denote delete places?
How to denote that x1, x2, x3, x4 or x5 was deleted?
“zil” is the rafsi of “zi'o”.
