Approving! Do we want to create a reoccurring task to check for (and pull if needed) any updates made to the base image?

that sounds like a plan! one thing to note while updating the base image is its compatibility with r packages used in the app code. there've been instances where code failed to deploy due to incompatibilities by r pkgs.
