Sorted.
For the record, I was building from the Unreal Automation Tool batch file in a version of Unreal that I cloned from GitHub. Once I started building from the same version I am using to run the plugin, it worked fine. So while there may have been issues with the code (there were certainly a few bugs to work through), everything seems stable enough to move on for now.
Header files could be addressed in a separate issue in the future - dropping a quick collection of references into #6
I suspect this might be related to the lack of a .h file
