I am stuggling to progress past the initial scanning phase, a wiki is REALLY needed for this mod.

mcenderdragon commented 7 years ago

Every thing is ingame documented so also other players can make a wiki, like Thaumcraft players did. And at what point are you sturggling, maybe we can improve our descriptions.

Moobien commented 7 years ago

I think that would be useful. Even the first stage is difficult as you dont know what you have to scan.

mcenderdragon commented 7 years ago

Well if you know what is pictured by the Icons it is easy but I think we never explain the symbols somewhere.

Moobien commented 7 years ago

I always end up scanning anything and everything because its not clear what you actually have to do for anything with the mod. I love the mod but its REALLY confusing and vague on a LOT of things

mcenderdragon commented 7 years ago

ehmm can you make a list of what is unclear ?

Moobien commented 7 years ago

ok. have had a play and a fumble. have some suggestions.

Initial Scanning - some things are clear as mud. - Took me an hour to scan what I needed and even then I had to manually spawn in some things.

Some mods prevent mob spawns - cannot scan all 12 aspects. (pixelmon)

Suggest: logistics icon looks like a farm. Change to rail/track

Suggest: change hydraulics icon to a piston

Suggest: morphology to a zombie

Suggest: Needs a 'creative' mode for players. Some players will be turned off by the whole research aspect of the mod. A 'creative' mode would be handy for those who just want to build things. I originally downloaded this mod because I saw you could build ships but saw nothing about having to go through a convoluted process of research to achieve it.

Suggest: research lockout for normal creative mode. for those who want to play in normal creative mode and who are happy to do the research then some form of filtering of the unresearched things in the creative tabs would be useful to keep track of what you are researching.

Suggest: Stockbreeding icon vague, change to a farm animal

Suggest: make compatible with enderio etc. making this mod compatible with things like BuildCraft, EnderIO etc would be extremely useful.

Initial Scanning: This phase was conventionally intended to do it while you begin with a game and collect the reseources you need to start.
We work on the unclear images and try to make it more understandable at all. Provided you have Access to all Vanilla items you can also complete this phase without scanning Mobs: Morphology: Mushroom, SlimeBlock, ... Stock Breading: Fence, HayBlock, ... And at all if you don't like the initial scanning simply use the command: "/fp research @p unlock basics" to skip it.

Creative mode: Playing without researches is possible, simply type: "/fp research @p unlock all" and you got everything unlocked. Tipp: With simple Commandblock construction you can automate this on an Server (if needed)

Playing creative with researches is quite difficullty: you can't access machines, but an dynamicly updating creativ Inventory is far outside of the Minecraft abillities. (short: unfortunately impossible)

Compatibility: What should be compatible/ what isn't it? We need more information.

Wiki: For Initial Phase we have a good Tutorial Video, but maybe should make a text walk-through for it. The remaining content should be (expecting the perspective of telling) like an wiki. We try to improve it until it explain everything good (yes meanwhile we know that some explanations are bad). For better handling and more comfortable reading we plan to export it to an web page.

Information: Tutorial-Video, Commands and more can found on the Curse page: https://minecraft.curseforge.com/projects/futurepack

With regards to compatibility, it would be good if the FP machines can have items piped in and out using buildcraft pipes, enderio conduits etc, as well as have your machines RF compatible. EnderIO is a vital part of my worlds and my infrastructure is based around it, with the way FP currently is I would have to have a whole second stystem for power generation etc in order to use the FP goodies. If FP was compatible with EnderIO etc then it would be very easy to integrate this mod's machines etc into existing worlds without having to work out how to install a second infrastructure for 1 mod.

mcenderdragon commented 7 years ago

Dunno why you can't pump items in it out our machines if the hopper can do it is most likely not a bug on my end. With the Energy system as Rf needed so long to update and depending on other code is nasty we won't change the Ne system, but we will add a way to transfor rf to ne, would this fix your problem?

Wugand commented 7 years ago

For the Item pipeing we support all standart methods, so they should be compatible. Do you setup up the in/out behavoirs with the Logistic Editor correctly ? (You can only use a side configurated as input (green arrow) to fill items in (indipentantly from the rules of your pipe system) )

Moobien commented 7 years ago

Having the ability for NE and RF to be compatible I think is a vital thing the mod needs. at present my reactors (Extreme Reactors) cannot possibly power any of the FP machines. If you do implement this I hope you make it so that cables/conduits from multiple mods can connect to your machines :) No matter what though, keep up the good work and if you do need help with your translations to english I am happy to help grammar check and edit, I think thats possibly some of the issues I have had in the past as there is some language barriers which I am sure we can all overcome :)

mcenderdragon commented 7 years ago

Well in this repository https://github.com/Wugand/FuturePack-Language are all languge files, if you foudn something odd you can simply open a Pull Request to fix that.

Old topic, but I just found it. Most of the things you need to get started are in the rooms where you find the Scanner ( if you brought with you a torch, 4 logs (to make two craft tables and a chest), a pick axe to reach the piston and redstone dust, and then to dig around to find crystal) then back to the surface to click on a horse.
