Alternative way to do this: Before giving people a likert scale, ask people whether their rating would change or be the same as before. If they believe something changed, give them the likert scale. Otherwise, assume the same rating as their previous. This will give people a "cheap" way to rate things the same without having to remember what it was they rated previously.
When people rate on a likert scale, would it make sense to display their previous rating, next to the current rating they are giving? Experiments which are not very long typically give people much better opportunity at remembering how they rated previously. But if we ask participants a lot of questions regarding their experience + their next experience is of a certain length, then it becomes harder to remember.
