How about, as an intermediate step to SPARQL support, support for something 
like Sindice's triple pattern search ?

See [1] for a discussion on this feature, effectively means one enters '* 
<http://xmlns.com/foaf/0.1/knows> *' and this would turn into "SELECT subject 
AS s, predicate AS p, object AS o FROM [lodcloud/rdftable] WHERE 
predicate='http://xmlns.com/foaf/0.1/knows'"
