Design or implement a measure which describes the volatility of area and yield characterising the volatility of production.

Variance is not a good measure since it is heavily influenced by extreme tails such as one observed in area.

The difference between the variability between area and yield is in both frequency and amplitude, spectral analysis and periodigram is a natural choice but need to account for missing values.
