The link to the original work, mentioned as 'This thesis, example animations, and the latest version of this distribution can be found at: http://isg.cs.tcd.ie/spheretree,' appears to be broken. Do you know if the content has been moved to a different location, or what might have happened to it?

Unfortunately not; this repository now acts as a preservation. Did you try to contact the author?
