Some cleanup done before starting to create some classes...

Are the bottom two always failing, or should I do something about them?

Also, the reason there are failures in 72aca77 is that pylint 1.7.0 added more checks: https://pylint.readthedocs.io/en/latest/whatsnew/changelog.html .
