snappy still needs to be removed in sub-modules

I need to emphasize that this PR is only supposed to have a technically running testing environment.

Some aspects of the PR might look kind of weird, as I seem to pass arbitrary parameters to different objects/functions.

The reason for that is that I simply wanted to fulfill the required number of arguments without changing the other sub-modules.

When we start now clearly defining these interfaces, these arguments will have to be changed both here in the core as well as in the sub-modules anyway.

Having the testing in place already now will help us at least to identify if some of the interfaces break.
