Run at startup does not work (Win10 21H2) #293

Hello and thank you for the great software from a happy customer. :)

As to read above, I have the problem that zVD does not start automatically at startup. The option in the settings is of no effect. I also tried to put it in the autostart folder, but that didn't work either. When I restarted the system, I saw that zVD appeared briefly in the taskbar, but disappeared again immediately. Maybe it's about to crash or something. When it is started manually afterwards, it works perfectly.

Thank you very much for any help.

Try not to move the mouse when zVD is starting up. This is a known bug due to the mouse hook. I will get back in and look for a solution.

Hello and thank you for your comment. I have had a closer look at the problem and can say that zVD does not (visibly) start. The few times I saw it appear and then disappear again shortly afterwards were probably not during system start-up after all*. I just made sure not to touch anything during start-up. And the mouse hook option has always been turned off. But still without success. The app does not start (visibly). Manual start-up is otherwise no problem, even with wild mouse and keyboard use :D

(*) Strikethrough the former text part.

I really think it has to do with the keyboard or mouse hook. zVD starts for me on startup as long as I wait for the number icon before I mess with the mouse. If I do move the mouse it does sometimes fail to start. I will investigate this more tonight.

I just published 1.0.98.1 and I'm starting the hooks a little bit later. Can you try to see if this helps?

I checked that out, but do not changed anything. I take care of don't touching anything while startup, but the icon not appear in taskbar. Thank you

thanks for trying. I'll continue to look into this.

Running into a similar problem on Win11 21H2, running as admin looks to be the only solve that I've come up with.

p.s. Love the app!

samc commented 2 years ago

Currently running it via a scheduled task at log in to bump the process up to admin privs.

I will be able to investigate specific Windows 11 issues soon. Just waiting on my new PC.
